As the U.S military girded for battle Wednesday, warriors of another kind gathered in Scranton to raise awareness of the power of prayer.

About 30 people from Lackawanna, Wayne, Pike, Susquehanna and other nearby counties met at the Clarion Hotel on Meadow Avenue for the Prayer for Peace Rally. Their goal is to have 1 million people praying for peace.

The group takes o political position regarding the war with Iraq. Instead, the members promote Christlike behavior toward all.

"Prayer is a form of fighting against the worst part of ourselves," said member Alix Fils-Aime, from Lakeville.

Mr. Fils-Aime said he has had private revelations from God for many years - revelations deemed by the Diocese of Scranton as theologically correct - and through them, he has learned to listen to God's voice and the signs he sends.

He has deepened his prayer life and his devotion to God and God's Mother.

Mr. Fils-Aime is a member of Arise JErusalem, Arise, a growing prayer group in Wayne COunty and the host of Wednesday's rally.

One day in prayer, Mr. Fils-Aime wished he could give God a million hearts for peace, and that's how the group launched its campaign to spur others to pray for peace.

Deacon Sam Jennings, of St. John the Evangelist Church in Honesdale, and Monsignor John Essef, pastor of Our Lady of the Abingtons Church in Dalton, also attended the rally.

"You are Christ in the world today, "Monsignor Essef told the group at large. "If He's going to show up today, He's going to show up in you.
